This Week's Journeys

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. 5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Prayer Journal Entry

Lord, forgive me for the times I allow the war against flesh to win. Emotional eating has been a struggle as long as I can remember, Father, and this time of year it seems to be even more pronounced. As Paul says, “For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate.” Lord, I recognize this tension – that my body will continuously want something different from what my heart knows is best.

I long for heaven when I’ll be just worshiping You without any other thought on my mind.

God, open my heart to experience the celebration of Your Son coming as a babe. As I wait to celebrate, let worship overflow from my heart. Let me revel in the perfection of Your plans, and the way all the prophecies about the coming Messiah were fulfilled.

Turn my heart to heaven this Christmas Season!

Worship Through Song

Journal Prompts

There are many tensions of the Christian faith that we get to live with and won’t have reconciled until heaven.

Think through some of those listed in Eve of Eternity or others you have experienced.

Wrestle with those and pray for the Holy Spirit to help you as you live in those tensions and begin to explain them to your non-believing friends.

Because we know Jesus, we have incredible hope. Many of us feel prepared to stand before the Throne of Judgement and anticipate hearing, “Well done my good and faithful servant” as the man standing before his master heard (Matthew 25:23).

But what of those who don’t know the Father yet? Those around the globe that have yet to hear of Father’s love for them are in need of a Savior!

Pray today that many would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus and have relationship with God. Ask the Lord what part you are to play in others hearing truth!
With Christmas just a few days away, pray that your heart would be ready to celebrate His great gift to You. Worship Him for His goodness!

Wait in expectation as we come to the day we celebrate His coming as a baby and we look forward to His return to once and for all redeem the world back to Himself!
