Gracefully Truthful

Read His Words Before Ours!

Psalm 46:7

The Lord of Armies is with us;
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
Read More Of His Words

Sometimes He meets me before dawn streaks the sky, calling me from slumber with tenderly Fatherly insistence. “Come along, Daughter. I’m waiting; I have something for you. Trust me, it’s better than sleep.” I’ve learned to trust His morning calls, and though sometimes belligerent, my soul, my inmost being, knows and yearns to be with the One who knit me together and knows me inside and out, and loves me still. (Psalm 139:13-18)

I’m recognizing His voice.
I’m learning His rhythms.
I’m settling His yoke around me.

Come to Me […],
take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
because I am lowly and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
(Matthew 11:28-29)

I open His Word, journal my insides onto paper, and allow my tears to held by the Hand of the One who gave me the freedom, and the right, to call Him Abba Father. (John 1:12)

I have no words to describe the delight of this intimacy.
I also know I don’t deserve it.

On my own, apart from the death, burial, and resurrection of the Christ who at this very moment is praying for me and covering me with His righteousness before the Holy God,
I have no right to be here.

For He is Almighty.
He alone is Holy.
He holds all authority.
At His voice, the earth melts.
My sin forever separates me from His holy presence.
Eternal death is what I deserve for my sins.
Even if I only sinned one time in my entire life, I would earn the same sentence.

The realization from yesterday’s Pause Study hits home again as we consider the reality of Psalm 46:7.

The Lord of Armies is with us;
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

As we studied yesterday, not everyone is included in the “us” who are protected by the Stronghold of the Almighty. Not everyone dwells in the City of God. Only those who choose the right side of the Victor by confessing our sin, receiving undeserved forgiveness, and turning away from our sin so we learn to loathe it.

Because of God’s vast love for us,
and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins,
we can confidently know we ARE the “us” from verse 7.

Which means we are guaranteed the presence of the LORD of Armies and a place of shelter in the Stronghold of the God of Jacob.

LORD of Armies
The all capitals in your Bible indicate the Hebrew name for God, YHWH, Yahweh, the “I AM” God. Above all rulers and authorities is this LORD of lords. No power touches His Omnipotence, for He alone is ALMIGHTY

God Of Jacob
Here we see the Fatherhood of God. By hearkening back to a time when He invited one nomad man, Abraham, to respond to Him in faith and walk with Him in obedience, God began the process of fathering a nation. From Abraham came the single son of promise, Isaac, from whom came Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel and a nation was born, birthed from God Himself who took the impossible and made it reality. (Romans 4:17-21)

This Almighty who rides on clouds,
who brings the dew,
who authors every sunrise,

who stores up the waters of the deep,
who will return with the trumpet of the archangel to gather His people to eternal safety
is OUR very present help in times of trouble.

The Almighty has offered Himself as our Abba.

The Father who holds nothing of Himself back,
who extends an intimate embrace with every new morning,
who lifts our head in the middle of the day,
who guards us from harm,
who sings over us at night
is OUR fearsome God of Armies.

Our Abba’s love is made manifest through the power of the Almighty.

If you haven’t memorized this week’s verse, make it a priority today!
Breathe in the strong love of these truths sung about our Almighty Abba!

The Lord of Armies is with us;
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

Today's Pause Challenge

1) Read Psalm 46 out loud today, twice. Slowly. Linger over those words that stick out to you, slowing and listening as God’s Spirit speaks to your heart! Write out verse 7 on a notecard and place it somewhere you won’t miss its message.
2) A new weekend means a new playlist! Put Pause VII Week Two playlist on repeat and be reminded of the rich truths God has shown you this week in Pause! Know that we prayed for you as we prepared this study!

3) As you contemplate the Lord as Almighty + Abba, read these passages to know Him more deeply. Psalm 139, Joel 3:14-21, Psalm 9:7-11, Psalm 18 As you read, write down what Scripture says to be true of Almighty + Abba.

4) Continue your memory work in Psalm 46:1-7

Close by reading Psalm 46 (twice out loud!)
God is our refuge and strength,
a helper who is always found
in times of trouble.
Therefore we will not be afraid,
though the earth trembles
and the mountains topple
into the depths of the seas,
though its water roars and foams
and the mountains quake with its turmoil.

There is a river—
its streams delight the city of God,
the holy dwelling place of the Most High.
God is within her; she will not be toppled.
God will help her when the morning dawns.
Nations rage, kingdoms topple;
the earth melts when he lifts his voice.
The Lord of Armies is with us;
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Come, see the works of the Lord,
who brings devastation on the earth.
He makes wars cease throughout the earth.
He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces;
he sets wagons ablaze.
10 “Stop fighting, and know that I am God,
exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.”
11 The Lord of Armies is with us;
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
