1) When we’re faced with temptation, looking to Jesus’ model of interacting with the devil is a great reminder. He said, “Get away from me Satan.” Jesus spoke with authority and precision to receive deliverance from His temptation. As believers in Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit living in us and can also speak with that same authority and precision when faced with temptation. How have you commanded the devil away from you and seen immediate deliverance? Share below to encourage the Body!

2) Bottling up our questions and fears is normal. We unpacked one question this week in All of Everything. What other questions about Scripture do you have? We like to use www.studylight.org to cross-reference or research Scripture. We’d love to hear your questions about the true, perfect Word of God. Our God is powerful enough to handle any of your questions, lay them out and let Him prove Himself! Email us at prayer@gracefullytruthful.com ~

3) Praying in expectation and recognizing that God may not answer in the manner of our request is another tension of Scripture. We can hold these two truths in tandem and allow faith to fill in the mysterious gap between the two. How have you wrestled with these truths? How have you experienced the power of prayer in your life first-hand?

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Romans 15:9b-13 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

9b As it is written, Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles,
and I will sing praise to your name.
10 Again it says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people! 11 And again,
Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles;
let all the peoples praise him!
12 And again, Isaiah says,
The root of Jesse will appear,
the one who rises to rule the Gentiles;
the Gentiles will hope in him.
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
(emphasis added)

Prayer Journal
Father, I want Your joy and peace so I can overflow with hope. That sounds perfectly peaceful. My life feels like it’s been up-ended and is in this constant state of flux; pour out more of Your joy and peace in my life Lord. I choose to trust you, bless You for Your faithfulness Mighty God of All.

Lord, this study You have been teaching me to “choose joy” as I’ve studied more about prayer. Thank You for revealing Yourself and Your face as we’ve journeyed together these last three weeks. As I ask for big things in confidence of your ability and power to answer them, I trust your sovereignty to reign in Your answer, regardless what answer You choose.

1) Fear is a deep motivator that can twist our thinking and influence our actions. If we have decided to follow the Lord, we have the hope of Scripture to cling to, helping us hold onto truth when it would be easy to live out of fear instead. John says that perfect love casts out fear. Love shared between humans is flawed because of our sin, but the love of the Father is perfect. We can rest in the promise that we don’t need to fear His wrath, His presence, or His work in our lives.

2) Make a list of what you believe about God’s character. Which features stand out to you? Where did you learn these ideas? Read back through Scripture and find truths about God’s character. Write those on your list and compare what you believe with what Scripture says. Ask the Holy Spirit to align your beliefs with what the Bible, our ultimate authority on truth, says about God’s character.

3) Being able to boldly and confidently approach the Throne of Grace should be held hand-in-hand with an awareness of our natural tendency to be too casual as we meet with the Lord. How do you personally balance these two? What passages of Scripture have helped you manage these two ideas in harmony? Comment below or email us at prayer@gracefullytruthful.com

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Romans 8:31-34  back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

31 What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He did not even spare his own Son but offered him up for us all. How will he not also with him grant us everything? 33 Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies. 34 Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.

Prayer Journal
Father, we praise You for the ability to speak to You directly through Jesus. We love that open relationship and the instant access You have prepared for us by giving us Your Son. Remind us to not take this gift lightly. Spirit, convict us of unconfessed sin that may be hindering our relationship with You.

This week, as I think through Your character, Father, let me see You with clear eyes. Peel back the lies that are lingering deep in my soul. As I look to Scripture to see more clearly who You are and how You operate, show me Your face, Lord. Teach me to continuously reevaluate my thoughts of You and watch out for lies the evil one has planted in my heart

1) The promise of life everlasting with our Creator God is tantalizing; as believers we can’t wait to be in heaven at the throne of God. Throughout life, we experience different situations that make us remember that promise of eternity with God and long for heaven even more. What have you experienced that brings that promise to the forefront of your mind?

2) When we choose to accept the free gift of salvation, Scripture says our lives are made new; the old has gone and the new has come. How have you experienced new life after following Christ? What changes has He brought in your life? Who in your sphere of influence needs to hear the Good News of Jesus?

3) Walking with the Lord does not guarantee an easy life. If fact, we are promised a life that includes persecution (John 15:18-23), it is expected. Praise the Lord we have the joy of the resurrection and the hope of heaven to carry us until we pass from this life into the next. What hardships are you walking through right now? How can we be praying for you? Email us at prayer@gracefullytruthful.com

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Psalm 84:1-4 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord of Armies.
I long and yearn
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh cry out for the living God.
Even a sparrow finds a home,
and a swallow, a nest for herself
where she places her young—
near your altars, Lord of Armies,
my King and my God.
How happy are those who reside in your house,
who praise you continually.

Prayer Journal
Father, as I look towards Heaven, I wait in anticipation for the calm and continuous worship I can join. My life is currently lacking both calm, and a heart of worship. Lord, breathe these in my life now, let me have a taste of Your presence that I might be able to hold on until Heaven is near.

You are so faithful, God, and have placed so many people in my life. I think of my friend, Billi, and ask for her salvation. Let her come to know you Father. Take hold of her life; let her hear from You that she might come to You in submission to Your will alone. Bring alongside people that can invest in her to show her Your love. Draw Billi and her family into a covenant relationship with You, Almighty Father!

1) Reflect for a moment on the death of Jesus. Read back through the account of Jesus’ crucifixion in Matthew 27. What does the cross mean to you? What emotion is stirred up while you read? Who in your life needs to hear the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection?

2) Write out Ephesians 6:13-15 and post it in a prominent place. Examine the different pieces of protection God offers you to put on. How can you actively choose to wear these defenses in the battle against the devil? Which ones are easier to pick up? Which ones are more difficult?

3) If you are a follower of Jesus, you have access to the power of Jesus displayed in His death and resurrection. Why do you think it’s so easy to ignore that power? Why do we skip calling on the name of Jesus when we’re tempted in sin? Or when we need boldness to share His Truth with someone? If you have yet to surrender your life to Christ, reach out to us with your questions at prayer@gracefullytruthful.com .

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Ephesians 1:7-14 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding. He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ 10 as a plan for the right time—to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him.
In him we have also received an inheritance, because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will, so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to his glory.
In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.

Prayer Journal
Dear Father, as I sit and reflect on Your good gift of life through Your son Jesus, I’m in tears Lord. That You would make that sacrifice for me is unbelievable. Thank You for Your continual pursuit of me and of all Your created people. Lord, Your perfect provision of redeemed life coupled with the gift of the Holy Spirit, is the physical representation of Your love.

Let me listen closely to what You are saying and where You are leading. I need help walking with You. Father, I often want to run ahead and pretend I know what I’m doing apart from You. Draw me near to Your precious side, Lord!

1) How are you at sitting still before the Father? It’s tempting to be busy doing good things in His name. But if we do good works separate from being steeped in His presence, we’re wasting our time. Where can you adjust your schedule this week to spend more time at the feet of Jesus?

2) Life is often tumultuous and unpredictable. Where have you experienced loss and needed hope? Share your interactions with the death of a loved one or loss of a relationship. Ask the Lord to pour out healing or bring restoration to your life. Wait on Him as He is faithful to breathe a soothing balm over your loss and hope found in His Name.

3) When you hear lies people believe about Scripture being brought to light, how do you feel? How do reconcile these commonly held beliefs with truth from the Word? We highlight using www.studylight.org to study the meaning of Scripture. Try it out and tell us what you found at prayer@gracefullytruthful.com.

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Psalm 130:5-8 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

5 I wait for the Lord; I wait
and put my hope in his word.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning—
more than watchmen for the morning.
7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord.
For there is faithful love with the Lord,
and with him is redemption in abundance.
8 And he will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.

Prayer Journal
Lord Jesus, you know me better than anyone. You know that my love language is acts of service, You created me that way! As I battle against myself to balance the desire to serve with spending time with You, let me wait on You! I choose to put my hope in Your word as I wait. I need Your redemption to flow in my life; bring me close to Your heart, Lord.

As I think back over the loss of our son, I have so many questions. The biggest one I come back to is, “did shoveling the snow that day cause his death?” Lord, as I rethink these questions, I wait on You for comfort. I know there are many questions this side of Heaven that I will never have answered. Pour out your grace to cover those questions until I am before You and reunited with my sweet boy.

1) The thought of letting Jesus and His grace carry us through difficult times can make us break out in hives. Why is that? What part of that idea makes you uncomfortable? Think through the practical reality of letting Jesus cover your difficulty; what does that look like? If you love that aspect of the nature of God, tell Him! Challenge yourself to spend some time reading some psalms and then writing your own as you rejoice in the God who loves to sustain you!

2) There might be some disparity between God’s perspective of what’s good for you and what you wish He was giving. From Scripture, we know that He will never leave us and that He works all things in the most surprising, sovereign way.  Yet we still doubt. When have you doubted God had something good planned for you? What do you think is the “good” God ultimately wants for you to experience?

3) We are easily blind to our own sin. Ask the Holy Spirit to assess your heart and determine where there is un-repented sin. Who in your life can keep you accountable to living a life worthy of the Gospel? Take a (wise) risk and open up to your accountability partner and tell them the truth of your life. Watch the Lord work mightily in your life as you take a step of vulnerability. True, deep community is the perfect breeding ground for intimate relationship with God.

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Philippians 2:3-8 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Prayer Journal
Father, You’ve given Your Word to guide my heart to Yours. It is my measuring stick for life and You’ve provided a way for me to see my need for a Savior. In your Word, I see Your redemptive plan in sending Jesus and how I can share that Good News with others. Sometimes I complicate it, Lord, by measuring myself to others. Forgive me when I don’t value others above myself, or when I put my interests first. You’ve shown me time and time again that the condition of the heart is more important than the outward display of religion. Change my heart to reflect Yours, Lord.

I often forget, Father, that I am not on this Earth to live an easy, comfortable life. That is a dangerous lie from the enemy. You have promised good plans for my life, regardless of my situation. Thank you, Father, for your wisdom in designing us to walk through the fire with You leading the way. Let us depend on you more and more each day!

1) Take time to process where you are with the Lord.
Are you in a season of running away from Him? What has brought you to this place? Lay those at the feet of Jesus, He welcomes you with open arms.
Are you walking in step with Him? What has brought you to this place? Ask Him to protect you from the snares of the evil one.

2) In 2 Corinthians 5:16-20, Paul paints a beautiful picture of what happens when we surrender to His will. Our hearts are completely changed; made new. Our previous identity is completely gone, not simply tweaked. God reconciles us back to Himself and then asks us to draw others into reconciliation with Him as well. Read through this passage and mark the cause/effect situations. Leave your previous identity behind and be made new!

3) God is jealous after you, dear sister. He wants your time, your devotion, your praise to be His and His alone. Make several lists of how you are using your time, who you worship, and who you give the glory to. Pray over these lists and see where you can adjust your eyes even more carefully to God.

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Isaiah 40:6b-8 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
7The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. 8The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”

Prayer Journal
O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and
light riseth up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all
our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou
wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save
us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see
light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious
favor, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our
works begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify
thy holy Name, and finally, by thy mercy, obtain everlasting
life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

1) Even in moments of struggle, King David knew where his strength came from. He revisited those moments often and came back before the Lord frequently. Where do you draw your strength from? How can you adjust your attitude to look to the Lord first for strength?

2) You, my dear sister, are part of the flock God is searching and caring for. I myself will search for my flock and look for them. As a shepherd looks for his sheep…so I will look for my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and total darkness. Ezekiel 34:11-12 Reflect on how this makes you feel? How will you respond to God’s great love and pursuit of you?

3) For people in a genuine relationship with Jesus, the dream of heaven is something to look forward to and dream of going someday. Eternity with God sounds perfect. We’ll sit at His feet and worship, forever living out His intended design for us as we work, love, and live in the beauty of a relationship untarnished by sin. However, for those who choose not to believe, the reality of hell is overwhelming. The complete, eternal separation from God. What will you choose?

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Psalm 28:7 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
Therefore my heart celebrates,
and I give thanks to him with my song.

Prayer Journal
Lord Jesus, I declare You as my strength and my shield. When I hit a rocky spot and I start to doubt my identity, let me cling to You as my Strength. Let me find rest in You, my Shield and my Shepherd. I’m so thankful Lord for your continued effort to draw me into deeper relationship with You. I feel so loved and valued when I pause and remember all You’ve done on my behalf.

Stir in my heart a longing for Heaven, Father. I can’t understand what it will be like so it’s often easier to not really think about Heaven for me. I do know that Jesus will return and that we won’t know the time or place. The Good News isn’t just for me to keep but rather to share. As I long for that perfect reconciliation in my own life, remind me to share the Good News You bring to others around me.

1) In seasons of trial, it’s easy to question God’s nearness. How do you remind yourself that we can choose to walk in His Truth rather than be overcome by fear?  His Word gives us many verses to cling to in moments of doubt. Choose one today to post in your room.
Snap a picture for Instagram and use #GTchoosefaith

2) ‘No’ is never an enjoyable thing to hear, particularly when it comes as an answer to prayer. Our human tendency is to push back or whine about the results. Give an honest assessment of the last time the Lord disciplined you, or was training you to become more like Him, and journal about it. Can you see His steady hand protecting you? If you cannot yet, wait in expectation for the Lord to reveal it to you someday.

3) Many of us will never have a physical adversary that wants to bring physical harm to us. However, an emotional enemy can feel just as burdensome to endure. Describe a situation you have encountered an enemy. Share the emotion of the situation and how the Lord brought you through that intense time.

Praying Scripture back to the One who wrote it in the first place is a great way to jump start our prayer-life! Pray this passage from Colossians 1:9-12 back to the Lord and
let His Spirit speak to you through it!

For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.

Prayer Journal
Heavenly Father, Your steady hand of correction is strong and gentle. I praise You for being in all and over all, able to see the future and know what is BEST for me. In the same way that I lovingly reprimand my children, You do the same for me; providing a sure path for me to follow. Spirit, keep me softened to You that I might respond when You’re speaking to me…even in a ‘no’ that I don’t want to hear.

Lord, as I face this big situation before me, I know You are near. Rather than ask You to remove the bigness, I pray for more of Your knowledge to walk in a way that would be pleasing to You. Show me your power and might over this! I choose to trust in Your faithfulness to Yourself and to Your word. “Lead me on. Lead me on.”
